March 29th
OMG! I didn't think that day would ever get here...the day I would leave to the airport to go to Corpus...My husband, Robert
drove us (me and my sister in law) to Atlanta airport on Mar.29th,2005. I was nervous because I haven't flew in 19 years!!
We got checked in and had a long wait. We were there early...then they announced our flight. My sister in law was nervous
too, and scared. I guess my scared went away when I explained what to expect on the flight. We finally arrived, about 30 min.
early. The rent a car people picked us up and took us to get our car...ON Leopard St. I took a photo of the sign b/c that is the street that Q-Productions is on.
We checked in the hotel and went to find some Selena sites. The first place we went to was the studio, which was like 2 blocks
from where we were staying at! We took a few photos and then went inside. The lady at the desk asked us were were we from.
I was so speechless that I mumbled "North Carolina" instead of "North Augusta,South Carolina"!!! She laughed and my sister
in law explained that I was a huge fan of Selena's and that I was not in my right mind. I must of had my mouth hanging open
too..We were allowed to take photos of the office area but had to leave all cameras there. We paid our $1 donation and then
the lady took us on the tour. We walked thru the recording studio and I was in ahhh. To think that Selena once stood in there
singing her beautiful music. Then we went thru a hall and that is when I bumped into a few Selena chat members (Steven, Ronny,
Aiden, and Steven). Then went into the muesuem. OMG to know that I was looking at Selena's clothes that she once wore...looked
at the car she once drove, saw her drawings of her designs, her gold and plat. records, but of all that got to me the most
was that microphone. Inside a glass case was a microphone-still had the lipstick on it, after all these years! My skin got
goosebumps. I couldn't imagine. I also saw her egg collection, which inspired me to start my own collection in dedication
to Selena.I ended up spending $40 in the shop there.
We then went back to the lobby and I got asked if I could be interviewed on TV. I was, uh, I don't do live cameras well, but
ok. I must of made a total fool of myself. Then we followed the other chat members to Selena Etc. I was ready to jump out
of the car as soon as we got there! A few more pictures outside, but NO cameras inside there either. I bought another $100
worth of Selena stuff, T-shirts, and other stuff. Then my sister in law and I headed to the grave. We finally found it and
it was a touching moment.
Then we found the statue and took more pictures.
March 30th.
The next day we went to Nuevo Laredo Mexico, and bought some stuff, and I got a bottle of Boucheron perfume in Nuevo, TX.
March 31st
We got up and went shopping. While trying to find Goodwill, we accidentally found Molina Street which hooked to Bloomington
(Selena's street). So we drove to her house, and I let out a scream when I saw the houses!! I got out and took pictures..then
two people approached me from two different TV programs. Okay, interview 2 and 3. I was beginning to feel like a pro at this!
I then picked a wild flower that was growing in Selena's driveway. The camera man (one of them) followed me EVERYWHERE. I
was beginning to get nervous! We then went to the Goodwill and there I found a shirt that resembled the lace in Selena's Amor
Prohibido outfit (which I later sewed ribbon on it like hers). Afterwards went to meet other chat members at the statue. We
ran into someone who knew the family-her name was Sylvia D. She said that I looked a lot like Selena (yeah, I wish!) and wanted
me to go to a memorial in her neighborhood that night. Then we all got on another show,#4 (on TV) got burned standing there
forever (take one, two.....and so forth). Then we then all went to the grave site all together. That is when I totally lost
it. I never cried so hard at one's grave. I left a single white rose for her and picked up a pebble from the ground and got
a leaf off the mesquite tree behind her grave.
Later that night we went to the statue again to be on a TV show...#5, That was fun! We later went to Selena's neighborhood,
and then partied with others, one big dance party with people singing. I really felt her spirit!
Apr. 1st
We went to San Antonio. I went to the Hard Rock Cafe and saw her outfit and then saw her star. Then we went to River walk
and I took photos of the bridge in the movie Selena ("you mean, we are here, together, and it is okay???!?!")and No Me Queda
Mas. Then went to Sunset Station (No Me Queda Mas) and when I went to the stairs, it took my breath away! I couldn't decide
which stairs to stand on, so I started stepping on the 1st, then 5th, then 2nd and when another chat member suggested the
3rd, and as soon as I stepped on it, I felt weird. As if someone took the breath out of my body. I got light headed. I knew
then that it was the spot that she once stood.(and it was confirmed later)
Later that night I went to a night club with other chat members, and also the following night (uh, don't drink on empty stomach
when you are going to have to fly the next day).
I cried on the way to the airport. I cried on the plane as we took off. The last thing I saw when we took off was the Selena
statue, as if she was saying "goodbye for now" to me. Such a touching site.
